Ryan Gosling set to play in a new Universal reboot of the movie ‘The Wolfman’

Ryan Gosling Will Star as ‘Wolfman,’ the Latest Monster Movie from Universal according to @Variety.

Months after Universal successfully relaunched its monster universe with Elisabeth Moss’s “The Invisible Man,” the studio is pushing ahead for “Wolfman” — which is being developed as a starring vehicle for Ryan Gosling — to be the next movie based on its catalog of iconic creatures.

Sources tell Variety that executives at Universal have been meeting with directors over the past month and could be making a decision soon on who will take the reins behind the camera. While there is no frontrunner at the time, Cory Finley, who recently received rave reviews for directing HBO’s drama “Bad Education” with Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney, is said to be in the mix for the job. According to the source Ryan was also set to direct the movie but then studios decided the best for him was to focus only on the acting job.

It’s unknown what the new take on “Wolfman” will look like, though it is believed to be set in present times and in the vein of Jake Gyllenhaal’s thriller “Nightcrawler,” and Sidney Lumet ‘Anchorman’, with an obvious supernatural twist. Ryan should play an anchorman who is going to be infected.

The “Wolfman” script, per Variety, comes from Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who served as writers on Netflix’s flagship series “Orange Is the New Black” but the original pitch is from Ryan.

Timing for “Wolfman” is also in question. While it seems to be in good position to get off the ground, an exact production start date is still up in the air. Besides the fact that Gosling himself would have to close a deal to star, he is also currently set to lead an untitled astronaut film at MGM. That movie, an adaptation of “The Martian” author Andy Weir’s upcoming novel, recently hired Phil Lord and Chris Miller to direct. By all accounts, that seems to Gosling’s next project.

Ryan Gosling new movie project called ‘Project Hail Mary’

MGM In Exclusive Talks for Hot Andy Weir Sci-Fi Novel ‘Project Hail Mary,’ Ryan Gosling Attached To Star & Produce

Project Hail Mary, a novel by Andy Weir, the author of the Martian, is in exclusive negotiations to be acquired by MGM in a 7-figure deal. Ryan Gosling will produce with Ken Kao.

The book is described as a solitary tale of an astronaut on a space ship who is tasked with saving the planet. There are some very clever twists that I won’t give away here, but is consistent with the ingenuity that made The Martian a thrilling ride. Ryan is attached to play the astronaut.

CAA is brokering the book deal with David Fugate of Launch Books, after running an auction that hopefully will be the start of more deal making. Book will be published next spring by Random House. Ryan is also repped by CAA, and he’s lawyered by Robert Offer.

After the Best Picture nominated Ridley Scott-directed The Martian, Weir’s prose has been in high demand. His novel Artemis was set as a directing project for Phil Lord & Chris Miller, and the company made a big deal on a Weir idea married to the graphic novel Cheshire Crossing, the first project they set under their new deal at Universal.

Ryan was last seen onscreen playing astronaut Neil Armstrong in the Damien Chazelle-directed First Man.

Update: Fox and New Regency bought the film rights and attached Phil Lord and Chris Miller to direct. The story centers on a solitary astronaut who’s assigned a critical mission to save the world. Ryan Gosling will produce with Amy Pascal, Weir, and Ken Kao, producer of “Mid90s” and executive producer on the Best Picture nominee “The Favourite.” According to Variety, Lord and Miller’s partnership with Pascal, which earned them an Oscar for Animated Feature as producers on 2018’s hit “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” helped get the directors fast dibs on the project.

“Project Hail Mary” will be published by Random House in the spring of 2021. It’s reported that Gosling, after receiving the manuscript, also jockeyed to bring Lord and Miller aboard the film. While Lord and Miller currently have a first-look deal with Universal, that studio gave MGM its blessing to hire the directors for the Weir project. Their last film as collaborating directors was 2014’s “22 Jump Street,” with directing duties taking the back burner to producing after being replaced by Ron Howard on 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

Lord and Miller were previously developing a film adaptation of Weir’s “Martian” novel followup, “Artemis,” though “Project Hail Mary,” which is not the officially announced title for the film, is now the priority.

Happy 2020!

Ryan Gosling rumor on a new movie project called Spy Vs. Spy directed by Ron Howard

Big News or Big Rumor?

According to unconfirmed reports, Ryan will star in the live action version of Spy vs Spy with Ron Howard directing and Saoirse Ronan and Tom Fetner costarring. Ryan will allegedly play the Spy in Black. Filming will start November 2020. The team Grazer and Howard are currently in talks with Netflix and others who are interested in producing the picture.

Spy Vs. Spy has been in development for 8 years and has finally started to move. Previously announced, Ron Howard and Imagine Entertainment will be making this film, based off the MAD Comics.

Spy vs Spy is about two agents involved in stereotypical and comical espionage activities.
One is dressed in white and the other in black and are particularly known for their long, beaklike heads and their white pupils and black sclera.
The pair are always at war with each other, using a variety of booby-traps to inflict harm on the other.
The spies usually alternate between victory and defeat with each new strip.
A parody of the political ideologies of the Cold War, the strip was created by Cuban expatriate cartoonist Antonio Prohías, and debuted in Mad #60, dated January 1961.

Ryan Gosling, will be playing “The Spy in Black”. Co-starring in the film with Gosling will be Young Hollywood Rising Star, Tom Fetner. He will be playing “The Spy in White”. Fetner finished filming Hillbilly Elegy which is another Ron Howard Film. He has also just been cast in the long-awaited film Spring Awakening as Moritz Stiefel.

Playing Tom’s love interest, “The Spy in Grey” is the superb, Three-time Academy Award Nominee, Saoirse Ronan. She will be in the Oscar-bound film Little Women coming out this December with Timothee Chalamet.

Ron Howard quoted:

When I watched these two (Tom and Saoirse) at the first reading 2 months ago, I knew right away that I had made the right choice. You can’t fake that bond between actors.

Let’s hope the two can recreate it for the film.

There has been no information about any release yet, but I assume once they find out if Netflix wants to have the film on Their Streaming Service, we will find out pretty soon.

This information has been given to IssueWire.com by Imagine Entertainment. Additional information and Casting is soon to come.

Update:
Apparently this rumor was made up by Tom Fetner! No true at all!

Ryan Gosling business meeting with Taika Waititi

Ryan Gosling was spotted with Taika Waititi last August the 16th and internet went mad!

Rumors: Ryan Gosling to debut in MCU ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ as a villain opposite Natalie Portman & Chris Hemsworth?

On August 16 he was spotted eating lunch with “Thor 4” director Taika Waititi @littledomsla in Los Angeles.

While the meaning of their meeting is unknown, many are speculating that Ry will join Waititi and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) in the upcoming fourth installment of the franchise.

The duo have not officially announced any upcoming collaborations but it was previously reported that Ryan was in talks to join the director in his upcoming flick “Akira”, adaptation of the Japanese manga.

Ryan could also be involved in another Taika’s project as Director: Taika Waititi is set to write and direct ‘Next Goal Wins’ for producer Garrett Basch and Andy Serkis and Fox Searchlight Pictures before he tackles Thor 4, the fourth installment of the Marvel franchise. Serkis’ Imaginarium Productions optioned the rights to the 2015 British documentary Next Goal Wins, directed by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison. It is about the national soccer team for American Samoa. Imaginarium brought the project to Waititi, who then brought Basch on board.

If Ryan Gosling were involved in ‘Next Goal Wins’, he could start shooting very soon: Next October in Hawaii.

Waititi and Iain Morris will co-write the adaptation. Jonathan Cavendish, Brett and Jamison will also produce. Waititi is repped by CAA and Ry too.
